My name is Ennie Gonzaga. Health & Wellness has always been something I’ve been interested in since a young age. I graduated from UCLA with a Kinesiology degree and was excited to start my career in Physical Therapy but that dream came to a crashing halt in 1994 when I was diagnosed with Lupus. What the heck is Lupus? I’d never heard of Lupus before. The doctor said that they don’t know how people get it and that there is no cure. I was told to give up physical therapy and get a desk job and was prescribed steroid medication. I asked how long I would have to take it for and he said, I’d have to take it for the rest of my life or that I may die. I was scared and I listened and did whatever the doctor told me. I left the physical therapy field and got a desk job and took my steroid medication religiously.
In December 2006, I was told that it had spread to my kidneys and was put on stronger steroid medication. One Saturday morning, I couldn’t get out of bed and I missed my son’s soccer game where he scored 7 goals. I told myself I wouldn’t let this happen again. I started researching natural remedies. I’ve been sick for a while and I never did it for myself before but now that it affects my son, it was time to take my health into my own hands. I started researching everything I could about what I was experiencing and looked for natural ways to manage what I was going through. I learned a lot and was able to change my health through natural methods like whole foods, balanced exercise. I saw a naturopath doctor who had me do a food journal. I learned that every time I ate meat, I had a lupus flare up. My dad made some awesome korean bbq and I ate meat at least 4 times a week. So rather than eat the meat and take the medication, I became a vegetarian the very next day. I thought I had the answer, that was it . . . no more lupus. . . that is until 2 years later, my dad passed from cancer and the stress of it all took a toll on my body and the lupus came back stronger than ever. I was back on medication having to deal with all the side effects. I continued to do research and was led to Sauna Therapy, Energy modalities, Massage Therapy along with other natural remedies. I am off of all medications right down to having no Tylenol , Motrin or over the counter medications for my entire family.
I listened to the doctor and gave up a so-called ‘stressful’ career in Physical Therapy. I ended up working in the IT field for 18 years, but I’ve come full circle and I finally left it to share my knowledge and help people who are sick & tired of being sick & tired!
